Nova Scotia 55+ Games Announces 2023 Co-Chairs
(New Glasgow, NS – February 24, 2023) – The 2023 Nova Scotia 55+ Games - taking place in Pictou County - has announced this year’s co-chairs.
Mayor Nancy Dicks of New Glasgow and past Mayor of Trenton Glen MacKinnon will be taking on the role.
Nancy Dicks is currently on her second term as Mayor of the Town of New Glasgow, with 8 years of experience before that on Town Council. She was an educator for 34 years and has served as a volunteer with many community organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, VON, Roots for Youth, CHAD, Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission, and Nova Scotia Community Transportation Network.
“The Nova Scotia 55+ Games brings our province’s senior population together and encourages active living all year round,” says Mayor Dicks. “I am so pleased to be serving as co-chair for this special event as it takes place in our community.”
Glen MacKinnon is the former Mayor of Trenton. He was a long-time employee with Sobeys and comes from a large family of athletes. A champion for sport, he is closely involved with Softball Nova Scotia and local pickleball leagues.
“I have always been a believer in staying active regardless of your age and the 55+ Games emphasizes the need for us all to remain active and social as we get older,” says MacKinnon. “The residents of Pictou County have always welcomed athletes and I fully expect they will come out in record numbers to compete and cheer on our friends from around the province.”
The 2023 Nova Scotia 55+ Games will be taking place on September 20 - 23. The last time Pictou County hosted was in 2015.
The Nova Scotia 55+ Games brings together individuals (aged 55+) from across the province for a bi-annual sporting event centered around fun, fitness, and friends. At these events, participants engage in games of both physical and mental challenges and lively social interaction. The event is overseen by the Nova Scotia 55+ Games Society, who encourages a healthier and more active lifestyle for older adults in Nova Scotia. Registration launch date will be announced soon.
