UPDATE for National Games
Over 2800 have registered for the Nationals – the highest number for the 55+ Games Nationals to date! WOW!
ATTENTION TEAM NOVA SCOTIA for Quebec!
The schedules for events are posted on the Quebec National website .
Schedules for each “event” can be found by clicking on the name of the event in the “Events” drop down menu and choosing “schedule”.
Please review your schedule and let us know if there is any error. There are ongoing updates and changes happening; keep checking the website.
Please note that if you find you are participating in a different age category, it is in order for you to have competition when there is a limited number registered for your event. Not to worry, though, your results will be for your age category only; for example, if you are the only one participating in the 90+ category, you will be awarded a gold medal – as you well should!!
We have some good news and disappointing news (provincially) to share:
Unfortunately, the company who supplied our Team shirts previously and committed to do so again this year, advised us just recently that their supplier is unable to fulfil our shirt order. Those who ordered and paid for a shirt will be reimbursed as soon as possible. Please be patient with us to distribute any refund; we have been very busy with registration and answering many emails and may not be able to get refunds done until after the Games.
Good news! The NS 55+ Society will give out matching (NS/Canada) hats to all registrants and we will also have Mary Murray’s generous gift of tartan badges to give out when we all line up for the Opening Ceremony. If you already have a Team NS golf shirt (as can be seen on our website), please plan to wear it. If you don’t have one, please plan to wear a blue and white golf shirt for our opening ceremonies. You are also encouraged to come wearing other NS attire and to bring along noise / music makers. Please let us know of any fun ideas to represent / express our TEAM NOVA SCOTIA spirit!
Special Note for Curlers: The Canada 55+ Games are not sanctioned by Curling Canada. Their rules are followed whenever possible. The challenge with the 2024 games is that Quebec has only 4 ice rinks available with limited time, so, the schedule has been adapted accordingly. This is why there are no crossovers between the four best. The top two teams will play for gold and the third and fourth teams will play for bronze. This was the best solution Curling Québec could come up with after many hours of consideration. There is a one hour curling practice time that can be reserved for August 26th by contacting Ellen, the NS Director.
Reminder that the necessary step of doing “Accreditation” in Quebec will happen on August 26th and 27th at the Welcome Center – “ExpoCité” 250 Wilfrid-Hamel Blvd, Québec City. Cynthia and I (Team Coordinator and NS Director) will be at a nearby table to give out hats and provide NS related info at that time.
Transportation schedules are not yet posted on the Host Website . Keep checking this website and the Quebec Host website for updates / changes to schedules and answers to questions you may have.
We will update you again before we all head to Quebec. Meanwhile, practice, practice and prepare to have fun!
